Polaris ATV Recall Expanded: 2004 Scrambler and Sportsman ATVs Pose Risk of Fire
June 4th, 2008 • Filed Under: News • No Comments
Polaris Industries, Inc. has expanded a prior ATV recall to add about 700 more Scrambler and Sportsman vehicles from the 2004 model year. Over 95,000 Polaris ATVs have now been recalled due to a defective part that could overheat, posing a risk of fire and burns to riders. Since the last recall expansion in February 2008, Polaris has received additional reports of problems leading to the addition of these vehicles.
Polaris has received at least four reports of the Electronic Control Modules (ECM) in 2004 Scrambler and Sportsman ATV melting and two reports of smoke or fire relating to the ECM. Consumers have been advised to disconnect the negative (black) battery cable when the ATV is not being used, and to contact a dealer to schedule a repair.
The Polaris ATV recall applies to vehicles that have been serviced for electrical problems which were given a defective ECM during the repairs. The vehicles listed below have been recalled:
2004 Scrambler 500 4×4 (Model A04BG50AA)
2004 Scrambler 500 (Model A04BG50FA)
2004 Sportsman 400 (Models A04CH42AQ, A04CH42AR, A04CH42AS, A04CH42AT, A04CH42AV, A04CH50AO, A04CH50AQ, A04CH50AR, A04CH50AS, A04CH50AT, A04CH50AV, A04CH50AQ, A04CH50AW, A04CH50AX)
